Thames Sailing Barge Match

CAR PARKING & FERRY INFO

Tilbury - Essex Side Of The River

There are no formal car parking facilities adjacent to the entrance of the Tilbury Ferry Pier. Just use your initiative. The entrance to the pier is at the river end of the A126 which passes through industrial estates and container depots. It is located to the south of Tilbury town.

Gravesend - Kent Side Of The River

If you're planning a full day out, by following the Match in an excursion vessel or charter barge you'll need a Pay & Display Long Stay car park. The nearest is very conveniently located across the road from the pedestrian entrance to West Street Pier and is called West Street Car Park. It has 76 slots. The West Street Pier is where the Gravesend-Tilbury Ferry MV Duchess M runs from, and where the MV Princess Pocahontas is berthed. It is signposted.

You can download - or open a PDF image [682 KB] map of the Pay & Display Long and Short Stay car parks adjacent to the river - including the two in the area of the train station here. The map is © Gravesham Borough Council.

Gravesend - Tilbury Ferry Service

The Saturday 2006 timetable is below.

You'll need to use it in the following situations:

1. to watch the barges leaving their berth and preparing themselves for the start and want to go back and forth across the river to get the best views. You can do so by embarking at the ferry piers at Tilbury or Gravesend

2. you've booked tickets in a charter barge [which typically berths on the Tilbury Pier] to follow the Match and you've arrived on the Gravesend side of the river by car or train

3. you've booked tickets in MV Princess Pocahontas to follow the Match which typically berths on the West Street Pier, Gravesend, and you've arrived on the Tilbury side of the river by car or train and wish to go onboard at Gravesend. Note she may pick up pre-booked passengers from Tilbury, after leaving West Street Pier. Check when you book your ticket.
